Your pet’s health and quality of life can be seriously affected by disease or injury to the teeth and oral cavity. As with humans, oral health is an important factor that must be maintained for your pet. Periodontal disease, inflammation of the gums and tissues surrounding the teeth, is the most commonly diagnosed disease of cats and dogs. It will occur without routine home care and dental cleanings by your pet’s doctor. Dental disease in animals can also frequently cause serious disease of the heart, liver and kidneys.
Here at North Mecklenburg Animal Hospital we have a Dental Suite that features three individual dental stations and digital dental radiography to assist the doctors with their examinations. Whether your pet needs a regular dental cleaning to maintain a beautiful ‘smile’ or more involved oral surgery to return a mouth to a healthy state; we have the finest equipment and trained staff necessary to provide the highest quality dental care for your pet.
All dental procedures in pets are performed under general anesthesia to ensure the most complete diagnosis of care. Routine dental treatment includes ultrasonic scaling and polishing of the teeth. Cracked, fractured or loose teeth will be extracted to prevent future dental disease after the doctor has spoken to the client about their findings.
