At North Mecklenburg Animal Hospital we use a carbon dioxide laser primarily to create precise incisions without the instrument itself touching the tissues. Laser surgery offers some distinct advantages over conventional surgery because it reduces swelling, bleeding and post-operative pain. We frequently use the laser for surgeries of the mouth, soft palate, nose, perineum and feet. It is also very useful for the removal of small skin tumors under local anesthesia in patients that cannot undergo general anesthesia. When appropriate, feline declawing is exclusively done here by lasers, making this procedure very well tolerated, by dramatically reducing post-operative pain and inflammation. Our doctors use the laser exclusively for making it much less painful with a faster recovery time.
